In the past days I had a lot of problems with the servers, it seems that my old search method hit a memory limit and that constantly pull the site down and made it return strange results and lots of errors. Two days ago I had enough and decided to build a new search tool almost from scratch…. and the results are amazing! The new search engine has a 900% speed improvement without any fine tuning!

- rolling mouse over images for ~ 25% of the clips – I’m working hard to get the thumbs for all the sites in our index

- new information in the search results… besides videos
- add a lot of new sites.

The BETA star is back
It was with us from the beginning, I took the star from our first logo that was generated with a free web 2.0 logo maker.
I dropped the www. part of the url
From now on all the requests to ro89 are redirected to the non www part so http://www.ro89.com becomes http://ro89.com.

I only write and speak English and Romanian, the rest of ro89 interface translations where made with automated tools from dictionaries. I’m pretty sure some of the translations in Japanese or other languages sound dumb :).
Want to fix a translation?
- get the language pack – it contains all the languages that ro89 supports (Japanese, Romanian, German, French, Thai)
- open the php file for your language with a text editor (notepad will do or notepad ++ if you want color highlighting)
- fix the translation (on the right side between the ‘ ‘) and send the file to me on contact@ro89.com

- find the empty_lang.php file
- write your translations on the right side between the ‘ ‘ and send it to me on contact@ro89.com

I’ve been so busy with my new business that I didn’t got any time left to write on this blog. When my new project will be ready I will sell robots, rugged computers, micro controllers and computer automation hardware here in Romania.
I did had time to update ro89 to a whole new level :)… autocomplete, new suggestion algorithm, a new quad server and I’m ready to switch to SSD storage for the cache. In fact the autocomplete feature had been updated many many times in the past week and one of the new things I’ve added to it is the ‘*’ wild chard character.
* = any number of characters between the first and the last word in the text box.

Am lansat versiunea in romaneste a motorului de cautare ro89.com! Nu am tradus doar interfata, intregul motor a fost rescris pentru a putea cauta in romaneste iar rezultatele sa fie intoarse tot in romaneste. Sper ca noua modificare sa aduca mai multi romani pe site :). Ro89 vine de la romania ‘89.

I finally found some time to update the front end of ro89 a little. Most of the changes are under the hood and are not visible but the pages should load even faster now because I manage to make them 20% smaller (this is very important for the caching system).
As you know, we don’t have pop-ups or any intestinal ads, hell I even removed parts of the user interface out of your way so you can find clips easier but unfortunately some of our partners have hidden pop-ups and other shit, please report sites with pop-ups here and I will try to remove them from ro89.
